Oxygen Upright
How can I keep this particular newly purchased bottle of seniors, red wine sweet?
I bought this shop in the basement (Achaia Clauss Mavrodaphne Grand Reserve, If you happen to know). I know that "all the wines should be stored placed on the side" but the lady at the saleswoman told me that it is an exception and should be stored upright. Wine (high sugar) should not be in contact with the cap because it will cause the cap to dissolve or in any way affect the wine. I am confused. I am almost certain that the wine has a regular cap (there is the usual Plastic? / Sheet thing on top the covers so I can not really be sure). Please reply if you are an expert. I already know what the answer is generic (store on the side so that oxygen does not enter the bottle ...). Thank you.
Grand Reserve has already was aged 20., According to my research. Has it added to the resin of pine it as Retsina? Perhaps this is the woman the shop was referring to that could damage the cap? The point of laying the bottle on its side is to keep the cork from drying and shrinking. High sugar content alone is not going to hurt the cap. Unless a pine resin in it, I would put it on the side.
