Nicd Battery
Replace the batteries with NiMH NiCd in solar garden lights?
I have solar garden lights (the cheapo type 4 from Wal-Mart), each comes with a replaceable battery NiCd AA battery inside. Can I replace this battery with a NiMH battery? From what I have read this * might * work, but the NiMH batteries may never be fully recharged.
That is correct. A solar garden light is one of the few places that is better than NiCd NiMH. Firstly, NiCd takes the heat better. Secondly, the NiMH needs optimally a train of pulses high current dependent, even if the average current is low. NiCd can be attributed to runoff, which is a very simple connection to a cell Solar. Some recent solar lights have an electronic circuit in them to do the pulse charging NiMH, but if the light came with NiCd, it should not this circuit.
