Sears Kenmore water softner I do not know how to use. bucket was filled with chunks of salt, but were hard, so I broke?

Water softner should have a foot of water on the background. If the water level is higher, you have a problem. There are several things that go wrong with these units. Without getting too technical, I'll give you some basic solutions. Recharging should normally take about 3 hours. Softners most recent are available on request.
