What is the best vacuum for pet hair?

I have an Australian Cattle Dog / Red Heeler with hair medium term. Despite of daily brushing his coat, he still throws a lot of hair on the carpet. My fiance has bad allergies and is in a constant state of discomfort. My current vacuum is a Eureka Maxima and it does not get the job done. No matter how I try there is always a good amount of hair left on the carpet. Im looking to spend $ 150-200 on a new vacuum. Can anyone recommend a vacuum in this price range which is excellent for picking up pet hair? Thank you.

I went to the local pet market and Carrara got a cat brush. It is a gray block and rubber company one side has spikey bits that you brush the cat and the other side is flat with ridges on the half and half points. This is for the furniture. I use the bit spikey on the carpet and it works wonderfully! I use this in conjunction with the vacuum cleaner and is very good! The block cost me $ 10. I hope you can find one. The best vacuum cleaner for hair is one of those old guys standing Hoover as a hair below that actually beat the carpet and brush the hair with a vacuum cleaner. You must vacuum the carpets very slowly and give him a chance to have employment throughout the carpet, Gee, but it works well!
