The smell of burnt you found it probably because the belt turns but the roll is not. Try to take the roll and see if the bearings within the end pieces turn. The end pieces should rotate freely. Chances are these bearings are either locked up because of something wrapped around them, or The bearings are locked up due to rust and corrosion. I saw two things happen. If they do not turn to pop the plastic cover off with your hands or searching them off with a screwdriver and clean the ball up real good and spray with WD-40. GOOD LUCK!
